Macron: Ukraine peace efforts shouldn‍‍`t be mistaken as ‘Surrender’

On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron held a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

After their talks, Macron made it clear that “calling for peace in Ukraine does not mean the country is surrendering.”

This statement came as the two leaders discussed various issues, particularly the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has now entered its third year.

During the meeting, one of the main topics was the idea of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, with the U.S. emphasizing security guarantees for Kyiv.

Macron described the discussion as highly productive, noting the importance of finding a solution to bring peace to the war-torn region.

This meeting followed a recent call for peace by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky met with European leaders in Kyiv and urged for peace to be established in Ukraine by the end of this year.

Shortly after Zelensky‍‍`s appeal, the Trump-Macron meeting took place, leading to a joint press conference between the two leaders.

Macron reiterated his point during the briefing, stating, “This peace does not mean Ukraine’s surrender.”

Interestingly, while this diplomatic effort was unfolding, the United States took a position alongside Russia twice at the United Nations concerning the Ukraine issue.

Washington also avoided directly condemning Russia‍‍`s actions in Ukraine.

Macron further addressed Trump‍‍`s communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He suggested there were reasonable grounds for this dialogue, explaining that “there are ‘logical’ reasons behind Trump’s communication with Putin.”

Macron went on to add, “After speaking with President Trump, I believe we can find a path forward.”
